To Winter Moor or Not To Winter Moor?

12 September 2019

Sailing during the winter months can sometimes be challenging due to adverse weather conditions. If you're interested in giving yourself a break from sailing amidst cold and rainy weather, and have your boat safely moored until you set sails again, why not consider central London's only marina? Not only will you reserve your space among the world's most cosmopolitan cities, but you will also benefit from the St. Katharine Docks summer/winter offers. If you are looking for reasons to visit us, keep reading this blog post and find out the exceptional benefits of our marina. Even when daylight is less and temperature is lower, the Docks still look wonderful during the winter period.

New Offer

Spend a week berthing at St. Katharine Docks Marina during summer and have your mooring fees reimbursed on top of our 6-month winter offer.

Looking forward to a warm and sunny summer period, we invite boat owners to book a berth at St. Katharine Docks Marina and stay with us for 7 nights in a row between July and August. Returning for winter, if you choose to benefit from our 6-month offer, we will reimburse you for your summer week's mooring fees.

The above offer cannot be redeemed in cash but can still be used in conjunction with our winter offer: simply book a berth on a 6-month contract, with a starting date from 15 September to 15 October and save 25% off your mooring fees.

St. Katharine Docks Marina reserves all rights to amend or withdraw the offer at any time with no prior notice.

At St. Katharine Docks we value our customers' feedback and we think our customers as our best ambassadors.

Read our interview with David B***, one of our previous winter visitors and find out the benefits of being at St. Kats during the winter.

How was your experience of sailing the Thames?

Sailing on the Thames is not an issue. For much of the river, there is a 'small craft channel' which keeps yachts out of the main shipping channels. There is also an excellent guide for small boats using the Thames issued by the government which is an excellent resource.

How was your experience of locking into St. Katharine Docks Marina?

Locking was essentially a non-issue and the St. Katharine Docks Visitor Arrival Guide is very helpful especially for boats visiting for the first time. Skippers just need to listen to staff directions on VHF Channel 80.

How were you satisfied with the berthing facilities and services at St. Kats?

Berthing facilities and accommodations at St. Katharine's are first rate.

How satisfied are you from the St. Katharine Docks Marina team?

The marina team is excellent, they couldn't be more professional or accommodating. It's definitely what sets St. Katharine Docks apart from other marinas.

Was the location of the marina convenient for you to use the public transport?

SKD is located near several bus routes, steps from the DLR and only a short walk to the London subway. It is wonderfully convenient for different means of public transport.

Did you visit any of the retailers at the Docks?

We frequented nearly all of the retailers surrounding SKD. Our favourite one, and the one we visited weekly, was the Indian restaurant, Mala. In addition, we were regular customers at the Dickens Inn pub.

Did you have the chance to join any events in London?

Being based in a marina in central London gives you the chance to participate in several London events. During my stay there, I went to the Opera for the first time at the London Coliseum.

Did you visit any major London attractions/landmarks?

As first-time visitors to London, we had all the tours of the major landmarks around the city. My two favourite ones were by far the British Museum and the Christmas Lights at Kew Gardens.

How would you describe the events organized by St. Katharine Docks?

SKD events are popular and entertaining and, the ones I have attended, have been very good. There seems to be a little something for everyone, from Classic Boat Festival to Christmas Lights switch on. This ties in with having so much interest around London as well.

Why would you recommend St. Katharine Docks Marina as an ideal winter berth destination?

SKD is a well-run facility with a terrific location. Being a locked marina, SKD is a totally water-proof destination for safely berthing a boat during the winter in the UK. I would highly recommend this marina.
